Choice in Home Care Is Your Right

Currently, anyone in need of financial assistance is streamed into receiving home care from just one provider. The Vancouver Island Health Authority has set up an arrangement whereby this ever so important and intimate service has been contracted out, and they would rather you stick to “their” choice. We at Island Home Care, believe this is wrong and we’re working hard to change the system.

Regardless of financial situation, the citizens of Vancouver Island are able to choose their own Doctor, Dentist, Physiotherapist, Massage Therapist, Chiropractor and even Child Care Provider; parents in need of a subsidy for Child Care are entitled to choose their own provider, with no restriction. Why then, is the same choice not easily available to those in need of Home Care?

After much investigation we have found the loophole in the system that allows you to choose your own care. We will help you, while we continue to fight for a change. This does not mean you have to choose Island Home Care; the point is, you have a choice and we are happy to help you whether you use our services or chose to go elsewhere.

In the meantime, if exercising your choice in home care is important to you, we invite you to to read and sign our petition. We must let our Minister of Health know that we deserve the right to choose our home care providers. With your help, we can create a better home care system for the future which will benefit our loved ones and ourselves.
